Sunday dinners have always been special to me, I set a lovely table, invite family over, spend hours preparing delicious food and make sure I take at least 10 minutes to take a deep breath and look around my table thankfully.

It’s the second last Friday of summer holidays for my kiddos and as much as I Love having them home with me (most of the time) I'm looking forward to the fresh start a new school year offers.

Like most 80's babies, Anthony and I grew up eating hamburger helper. To be honest, though I've never made it, we've always tried to eat as real as possible. Except for fish, a few times a month Anthony eats a gluten-free, vegetarian diet which, can be a real pain when you want a quick meal that's filling, inexpensive, and that the kids will eat. This week I played around with a gluten-free vegan pasta dish that just happened to taste like hamburger helper. This recipe is good fresh, as leftovers, and freezes well.

Kendall and I enjoyed our time together on Friday, she thanks you all for your Birthday Wishes. Call me "old," but I have a hard time focusing on shopping in stores that are very bright, have too many options, and really loud music, so I usually prefer to buy online. On Friday Kendall saw this unicorn thing in Forever21 and dragged me in.

A few years ago, Anthony and I were lucky enough to get tickets to one of the last Tragically Hip concerts. The only catch was it was in Ottawa. My parents stayed the night to watch the kids and Anthony, and I headed out for a rare two days away. We stayed close to the Parliament Hill in the Lord Elgin Hotel. Located in the lobby or around the corner ( I can't remember) was a Starbucks. The morning after the concert we grabbed a coffee and a muffin. It was my first time having one of those blueberry cake like treasures.

Last week, I posted a photo of Anthony, and I dressed up for a last minute date night and got tons of questions about my dress. I'm short, just around the 5-foot mark. Finding a dress that doesn't need alternations can be tricky, but a few of my favourite brands carry "petite" lines that work perfectly for me. I'm going to share two of them with you today.

There's just something about a nicely set table that makes me so happy. Entertaining is a lot of work, but work that I truly enjoy. I love coming up with new ideas and deciding which dishes will set the tone. My first stop is always the grocery store flower section. Yesterday, I started with my accent flower, the little pink roses.

Over the last few years, I've been having this dream over and over again, I'm sitting on a porch swing reading, eating an apple, and a beautiful brown horse comes over my shoulder and takes the apple right out of my hand. I'm sure that when I was a kid, I went on pony rides at the fair. I can't remember but what kid doesn't go on pony rides?

Sundays, are usually spent catching up on laundry, tidying up bedrooms, and baking for the week ahead. School is almost finished for summer break, and I couldn't be happier. I'm tired of figuring out new snacks and creative lunches. I am, however quite proud that I gave my kids a litterless lunch every single day this year.

Friday nights are always Movie nights around our house. We get in our jammies, make some snacks, snuggle on the sofa and watch a movie. My kids favourite part is the food. If you're not careful, you can end up spending a lot of your weekly grocery budget on processed crappy food. Kids can still enjoy the traditional treats without the cost or added preservatives. Making these treats at home only adds to the fun family night. 

If you follow me on Instagram and watch the "stories" then you already know I had a ton of cute outfits to photograph today. Unfortunately, I caught the cold that Anthony and the kids had. I managed to get a few photos of my favourite dress but when I went to link it, I couldn't because it's sold out online. Total bummer!

Over the next few weeks, I'm going to share some of my favourite food DIY's, that save you money, require only a few simple ingredients, and taste better than anything you'll find at the grocery store. 

This lemon delight is perfect for Mother's Day or any occasion this summer. It's simple and beautiful. I did make a glaze with icing sugar and lemon juice, but the organic icing sugar makes it off-white and almost invisible, so I sifted a small amount of icing sugar on time to add some colour.

When I think about Mother's Day Tablescapes, I see pastels, bright white, fresh juices, and yummy treats. A well-designed table and a few nibbles are the perfect settings to enjoy some time with your Mum.

If your Mum or wife is anything like me, then she loves pretty coffee table books filled with pages of inspiration.  On sunny days out on the patio or snowy days on the sofa. Curling up with a beautiful book is one of the things I love best

A Sure sign of summer is white Jeans. When my kids were younger owning white jeans was scary but as they've gotten older and I've mastered removing stains from our white furniture, I confidently own two pairs; Skinny distressed and skinny (crop on most people but ankle jeans on me) 

It's no secret that I'm not very good with a sewing machine, I'm getting better, but I still prefer no-sew projects. I've spent a small fortune on napkins; I love adding colour and texture to my tablescapes with napkins

Anthony has been gluten-free for almost one year, and I still have a hard time with baked goods. I was on the cookie kick for a while, but eventually, the kids were tired of "Daddy's cookies" and requested the ones I used to make.  After the cookie phase, I went into brownies and blondies. Today I decided to experiment with muffins.
