STONE VASE DIY

I bought this vase from IKEA three years ago; I think I paid $14 for it.

I never really liked the colour, but I liked the shape and the size of it. Whenever I put flowers in it, I think how pretty it would be if it were white. The surface is shiny, and I know from experience that paint does not adhere very well to shiny glass surfaces, so I resisted the urge to paint it. Until, I was browsing the isles of Michaels one day, and I found this stone effect spray paint. Of course, they only had ugly colours, so I put them back but then, before I left the store, I thought, what if I could use this stone effect on my glossy vase and then spray paint it white? I usually get Anthony to do the spray painting because I never feel like I can do anything even enough, but I thought since It's supposed to look 👀 texture-ey, I would give it a go!

I’ve mentioned numerous times that I have no patience, which never works out well for me, so you think after all these years, I would learn to have more patience. When I sprayed the first coat, I waited about five minutes and then touched it; when all of the paint sort of just mushed together, I thought the project was doomed. So I applied another coat, lol

A couple of coats later and completely ignoring the directions on the can, which I don’t necessarily recommend you do, FYI, this was just my approach, I came out with a stone-looking vase that I was happy with. At this point, I decided to thank my lucky stars and leave the vase to sit for 24 to 36 hours

Once I was certain the vase was completely dry, I put on the first coat of matte white spray paint. I was so excited even after the first coat, I could see that my vision was coming to life. I took this as a sign that I needed to hold my horses be patient follow the instructions, and do it properly, so I waited about eight hours before I applied my second coat.

And there you have it, a perfect-looking white stone vase that I love and probably would’ve paid close to $100 for, but instead, I took something old, spent $17 and turned it into something new. By the way, you can use your 50 or 40% off coupons on these spray paints at Michael’s!!

I hope you love this vase as much as I do. If you end up trying this stone-looking spray paint, let me know

Megan, xo
