OUR CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR
I love decorating our home for all occasions and celebrations, but Christmas especially is dear to my heart. When I was a little girl, we didn't have much money, but my Mum always made sure Christmas was magical. Our table was beautifully set. I remember our windows being filled with homemade decorations. I still don't know how they managed to pull off Christmas the way they did. I hold those memories with so much love. I hope that I'm creating the same magic for our children.
Let's start in the dining room. I miss setting my beautiful table for big family dinners. Those are moments I've never taken for granted, even though it's a lot of work. Today the kids were home from school (because Kendall pretended to be sick so she could get out of class for 24 hrs ). When they came in from playing in the snow, they were both excited to see the tables set. "Who's coming over," Kendall asked with a big smile. Poor girl is missing family so much.
This is the third Christmas I've had this big beautiful perfect hutch. I recently took out a few sets of dishes to make more space for my cake stands. Don't worry! They are tucked away safely in my basement. I had a hard time decorating the hutch this year because I LOVED what I did last year, and I worried you guys would be bored if it looked the same. I added a garland and some of these beautiful vintage looking lights from Ikea.
I have some beautiful gold plates on the way, and when they get here, I will share a full tablescape for you guys. I just threw this together because the table looked sad without any decorations.
See these little turkeys hanging out on our advent calendar? Herald, Angel, and our new addition Fred, the reindeer. This advent calendar was mine when I was a child.
Here it is at night. Bennett kept joyfully looking at the twinkle lights in the houses, smiling.
I'm not too fond of that big old ugly TV. I wish Anthony would be on board with taking it down. We had a smaller one there, but it broke a few months ago, and we had one sitting in the basement not getting any use, so we brought it up. I'm hoping our next house has a better set up for the TV. I would love to get one of the new framed ones to add a digital design while photographing.
If you follow me on Instagram, you're probably tired of hearing about my rug, lol, but I love it so much. It's one of the only pieces I've ever purchased that didn't give me twitch. Our new sofa is working out so well. I'll share a review soon. My old coffee table is still here, I was tempted to bring it up for the holidays, but it's super heavy and takes up a lot of space. Bennett is sure to roll into it and not be happy. Anthony made this little white one in the spring; it's easy for me to move in and out of the room. This little dough bowl is from Rivercroft. I added a bit of greenery and a Christmas candle.
The pillows are a few years old. I had them made from vintage grain sacks. I wasn't going to add red this year, but I couldn't resist having a bit of vintage in my more modern than ever living room.
I've been having a hard time styling my shelves lately. I enjoy the space better with less stuff, and I didn't' want to overcrowd the shelves. I used some wooden trees Anthony made last year. My white Village, some white and gold trees, some sweet little gold houses meant for tree ornaments and framed some of our recent family photos in these simple gold frames.
I added a photo of this cutie just because he's adorable.
Another wish list item for our new house is a bigger main floor with only one eating space. Ideally off the kitchen like this but big enough to fit my almost 9ft table.
I love boards and bowls of all shapes and sizes, but they have to be white or wood, lol shocking, I know. Sometimes I'll grab a grubby old board meant for the burning pile and convince Anthony to cut something for me. This is one of those boards. It's raw because I didn't want to change the colour at all, so If I'm using it for food, I put down a napkin or a piece of kraft paper. I'll show you a few ideas later this week or next.
Gold candlesticks are always at the top of my list when I'm searching through antique markets. I added two white vintage style holders to the table as well. These are my Christmas dishes. I found them at Homesense about five years ago. I almost sold them this year, but Anthony talked me out of it, and I'm so glad he did.
This is the big kid's room; I only added a few things this year. These duvet covers are from Ikea and only $29 for each twin set.
I hope I've given you a little holiday inspiration. I know this year is going to be different for all of us. I hope that, however you celebrate your holidays, they are filled with love and laughter.
Thank you for stopping by,
Megan, xo
