Living Room Update
After four long months, Anthony is finally home for good and we couldn't be happier. I don't know how so many of you do it!
I've been quiet on my blog and social media because I feel lost when he's away. I go into full-time Mom mode and I don't want anything to distract me from what's important. The kids are good about Anthony being away but if I was distracted and irritated because I couldn't get work done I think it would be harder for them. So I focus, the handmade side of Tesser Traditions is more profitable, when I have time to create that's where I put my efforts.
The minute Anthony told me he was on the plane getting ready for take off I could feel the old me coming back and I couldn't wait to finish up the living room. We updated our furniture to the Farlov Series by Ikea early in the year, as much as I love the furniture I hated the covers. I collaborated with Bemz and received a discount on the sofa cover. A few months later I purchased the covers for my chairs. They are well worth the price! I choose fabrics that are pre-treated for stains.
I love the idea of a natural fibre rug but having one is a different story. The thing is, they shed! They look beautiful but they are hard to vacuum, you can't slide furniture around, mine weighed 80lbs (yup, you read that right) and the kids never wanted to play games on the floor because they didn't like the texture. The other major thing downfall is I noticed an increase in allergies, Morgan was sneezing and rubbing his eyes every time he was in the living room.
You guys know I'm not one for colour so I had a difficult time choosing a rug I liked. Some keywords I used when searching through thousands of options on Wayfair was "Vintage, Navy, Farmhouse." When I found one I liked I saved the picture and read the reviews. After I picked out 4, I made a collage and started adding the colours and items I already have to get an idea of what rug would look the best. I also asked a few friends to weigh in. I ended up going with "Abbeville Dark Blue/Cream Area Rug" By Modern Farmhouse. I purchased a good under-pad as most of the reviews said it is a thin rug.
It’s seriously gorgeous, thin yes! But the under-pad fixed that. I turned it a few times before I decided on the final placement. I kept the more open part of the rug to the front of the room and decided on using the creamier side. The more blue side is between the sofa and the coffee table.
With Christmas just around the corner, I felt that pull to have a fireplace. This is the third year in a row I've bought a fireplace just for the holidays. This one is my favourite so I think it's a keeper. It was a tad yellow for my liking so I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Picket Fence from Decorative Dreams on Main street. I liked the black on the fireplace but I thought it was too masculine for space so I finally got to try out "peel & stick tiles" My sister in law Diana is a peel and stick pro so I took her up on her offer to help me out.
I just love the way everything turned out, and nothing is giving me that "twitch" yet. I can't wait to show you what I've got in store for Christmas this year. I think you'll love it as much as I do.
