DIY HEART NAPKINS
February is here, and you know what that means. Pink, Hearts, and Chocolate! You guys know how much I love setting a pretty Tablescape. The little details are my favourite part. Months ago, even before Christmas, I started searching for pretty white napkins with delicate hearts. When all else failed, I ordered an embroidery kit. A few days ago, I came to my senses and decided to take the more familiar road, stencils and paint. I bought these cheap white cotton napkins off Amazon, designed and printed a stencil on my Cricut, used up some old paint and viola.
I used my Cricut, but you can use various items you already have around the house. A cookie-cutter, you can make a stencil by drawing and cutting on card stock, Fruit cutters, thumbprint hearts, stamps etc.
I took some red and white paint, put it onto a plate and used white as my base to create various pinks.
The number 1 rule when it comes to stencilling is to take off as much paint as possible; if there's too much, it will bleed under the stencil. I use a napkin and make a light circular motion.
I used 2-3 shades of pink.
I'm impressed with these napkins for the price, and they definitely feel like they are worth more than $2.00 each. Some of the edges are not perfectly straight, but that didn't affect my overall design. I cut my stencil on 12x12 cardstock. I placed the stencil in the top left corner and got started.
Using the same circular motion, I randomly stencil hearts in my first colour.
Pull back the stencil and TADA!
I used Fusion paint for this project because I know I can wash the napkins and the colour will stay put. You can purchase small pots for less than $5; a little goes a long way, and you can add a bit of water to get the right consistency. I wanted to get this up for your guys quickly, so I didn't have the opportunity to steam them, but next week, I'll show you how pretty they look in my Valentine's Day Tablescape.
Thank you so much for reading; if you give this a try, I would love to see it.
